40 Days Of Preparation For My First Communion
With St. Therese Of The Child Jesus

The text which follows was used to prepare St. Therese of the Child Jesus for her First Holy Communion (cfr. "Two months and nine days preparation for my First Communion," Carmel of Lisuex, Liseus, 1909). The present booklet contains, in addition to the prayers composed by Pauline Martin ("the Perfumes"), forty little promises. These are represented by flowers.
These flowers will blossom in the soul of all those who follow the little pathway traced out by St. Therese. Parents can help their children to gather these flowers, each at their own pace. The goal is to offer children a real challenge to love: that is to say, to learn to be loved by Love and to love Love. The little prayers, which can be repeated and memorized, will teach children on the language of love for Jesus.
The promises will help children understand what it really means to "make communion": to know that God is truly present in the Eucharist and in the love of neighbour and to allow Him to work through us.
This booklet was written for First Communion children, but everyone can follow, mutatis mutandis (changing those things which need to be changed), Therese in her preparation for the first Communion, in order to renew our Eucharistic practice.
