The Story of Our Mother of Perpetual Help DVD

It was in 1866 that the Redemptorists were entrusted with the miraculous icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. When the picture was enshrined in their Church of St. Alphonsus in Rome, Pope Pius IX gave a command to the Redemptorists: "Make Our Mother of Perpetual Help known throughout the world."

For over 150 years, the Redemptorists have done just that. They have preached countless missions and homilies around the world on Mary and her role as Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Through their efforts, millions of copies of the picture of Our Mother of Perpetual Help now hang in churches, chapels, hospitals, and homes. Each week, many people still gather together in churches beneath the picture of Our Mother of Perpetual Help to honor Mary with their prayers and songs. Still many others privately call upon her in their time of need.

This documentary has been produced in keeping with the wish of the Church that the Redemptorists spread devotion to Mary as Our Mother of Perpetual Help. A portion of the documentary is devoted to an explanation of the icon, noting the figures, the symbols, the style of art, the message, and the story of the picture.

This documentary brings the viewer to a deeper devotion to Mary, the Mother of the Church and Our Mother of Perpetual Help through first person accounts of favors granted through her intercession"“safekeeping during an airport tragedy, healing from disease, the saving of the church community, and comfort at the hour of death. Included is footage from "The Last Best Year," a fictional drama based on true events starring Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters, and a personal memory of the miraculous icon by Pope John Paul II.
