The Covenant of Love

"The Covenant of Love is the story about Biblical people in the Old Testamant and is written, like the Bible itself, for everyone. In the Bible man is shown with all his weaknesses, shortcomings and dependence on God. God alone is holy and perfect. Man, as long as he depends on God, can attain great things, as Joshua did during the battle with the Philistines: God stopped the course of the sun and moon until the battle was won.

In writing this story many descriptive details were used in order to make the book easily read and enjoyed. These elaborations, personal and relevant to the human scene at all times of man's history, are not unfaithful to the spirit of the scriptural account.

The Bible shows that all men are sinful-- even God's especially chosen ones, such as Kings David and Solomon. God created man in his likeness and made a covenant with him. This covenant of love is salvific grace enduring through all ages. God implanted the notion of this covenant in Adam's mind at the most tragic and hopeless moment in Paradise, right after the disobedience to God's will, when Adam and Eve were hiding from the sight of their creator. God offered a covenant to Noah and sealed it with the rainbow in the sky. God made a more binding covenant with Abraham, and later with Moses, with the Ten Commandments. Then he established a 'Father-son' relationship with David, promising him an everlasting throne.

In creating man, God gave him free will. As a father he loved his creation-- man: undependable, changeable and unstable... 'whose heart and mind incline to evil.' Throughout the ages he leads man closer to himself step by step, revealing himself by subtle ways.

In writing this story of God's love for mankind, the attempt was made to show that God has been the loving Father from the beginning to the end. Many and various sources were used to accomplish this work; however, the main source was the Old Testament. Most quotations are taken from the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition.

It is hoped that this work will inspire the reader to open the Bible-- the unending source of revelation-- and find the ever-living characters there."
